Tests and analyses for the characteristic parameters of rock dynamics in Samen Nuclear Power Plant, ZhejiangProvince

Li Xuanjun

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 2,   Pages 27-31

Abstract:

The properties of rock dynamics under the commercial nuclear reactor foundation are very important Parameters in ascismic design. The properties of rock dynamics and test method under earthquake loading are analyzed in this paper. From this, the dynamic elastic modulus, poisson' ratio, shear modulus, and triaxial pressure strength of 4 kinds of rock (tuff, tuff sandstone, felsophyre, rhyolite porphyry) have been given by using the RDT-10000 high Pressure triaxial machine. These parameters have been used in the feasibility report and the aseismic design of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant.

Changes in major factors affecting the ecosystem health of the Weihe River in Shaanxi Province, China

Qi LI, Jinxi SONG, Anlei WEI, Bo ZHANG

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 6,   Pages 875-885 doi: 10.1007/s11783-013-0568-2

Abstract: Maintenance of the ecosystem health of a river is of great importance for local sustainable development. On the basis of both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the influence of natural variations and human activities on the ecosystem function of the Weihe River, the changes in major factors affecting its ecosystem health are determined, which include: 1) Deficiency of environment flow: since the 1960s, the incoming stream flow shows an obvious decreasing tendency. Even in the low flow period, 80% of the water in the stream is impounded by dams for agriculture irrigation in the Baoji district. As a result, the water flow maintained in the stream for environmental use is very limited. 2) Deterioration of water quality: the concentrations of typical pollutants like Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and NH -N are higher than their maximum values of the Chinese environmental quality standard. Very few fish species can survive in the River. 3) Deformation of water channels: the continuous channel sedimentation has resulted in the decrease in stream gradient, shrinkage of riverbed and the decline in the capability for flood discharge. 4) Loss of riparian vegetation: most riparian land has been occupied by urban construction activities, which have caused the loss of riparian vegetation and biodiversity and further weakened flood control and water purification functions.

Predictive Nomogram for Predicting Improved Clinical Outcome Probability in Patients with COVID-19 in ZhejiangProvince, China Article

Jiaojiao Xie, Ding Shi, Mingyang Bao, Xiaoyi Hu, Wenrui Wu, Jifang Sheng, Kaijin Xu, Qing Wang, Jingjing Wu, Kaicen Wang, Daiqiong Fang, Yating Li, Lanjuan Li

Engineering 2022, Volume 8, Issue 1,   Pages 122-129 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2020.05.014

Abstract:

The aim of this research was to develop a quantitative method for clinicians to predict the probability of improved prognosis in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Data on 104 patients admitted to hospital with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection from 10 January 2020 to 26 February 2020 were collected. Clinical information and laboratory findings were collected and compared between the outcomes of improved patients and non-improved patients. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistics regression model and two-way stepwise strategy in the multivariate logistics regression model were used to select prognostic factors for predicting clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients. The concordance index (C-index) was used to assess the discrimination of the model, and internal validation was performed through bootstrap resampling. A novel predictive nomogram was constructed by incorporating these features. Of the 104 patients included in the study (median age 55 years), 75 (72.1%) had improved short-term outcomes, while 29 (27.9%) showed no signs of improvement. There were numerous differences in clinical characteristics and laboratory findings between patients with improved outcomes and patients without improved outcomes. After a multi-step screening process, prognostic factors were selected and incorporated into the nomogram construction, including immunoglobulin A (IgA), C-reactive protein (CRP), creatine kinase (CK), Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II), and interaction between CK and APACHE II. The C-index of our model was 0.962 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.931–0.993) and still reached a high value of 0.948 through bootstrapping validation. A predictive nomogram we further established showed close performance compared with the ideal model on the calibration plot and was clinically practical according to the decision curve and clinical impact curve. The nomogram we constructed is useful for clinicians to predict improved clinical outcome probability for each COVID-19 patient, which may facilitate personalized counselling and treatment.

benefits of power generation by straw biomass —A case study on the Sheyang Straw Power Plants in Jiangsu Province

Xiaoshun LI , Futian QU , Dongmei JIANG , Peixin ZHU ,

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2009, Volume 3, Issue 3,   Pages 348-353 doi: 10.1007/s11783-009-0026-3

Abstract: Power generation using straw biomass has quantifiable benefits from an economic, ecological, and sociological perspective in China. The methods used to construct the assessment models of these integrated benefits were the revenue capitalization approach and the discounted-cash-flow approach. The results indicated that a straw power plant with the capacity of 2.50×10 W and burning 1.23×10 tons of cotton straw could annually supply 1.40×10 kWh of power. However, it would not be until six years later that these results could be measured. Over the long term, the gross benefits could reach up to 4.63×10 Yuan. Therefore, the total benefits are expected to be 1.18 × 10 Yuan if all available straw resources are used to generate power. The policy implication showed that the long-term integrated benefits of power generation by straw biomass outweighed the short-term benefits. This is the main incentive to use straw biomass for power generation in the future.
